Is Claude for Government FedRAMP authorized? Can I use it with CUI?

Can I use it with CUI?

Yes, with conditions

Anthropic says CUI and FIPS 199 High data are authorized in Claude for Government, which runs in a FedRAMP High environment on Palantir's platform. It is not an IL5 environment, and it is desktop-only. Defense contractors should read the Department of War supply chain note below first.

Notes

In 2026 the Department of War took two separate supply chain actions against Anthropic over the use of Claude in DoW contracts and subcontracts. On August 27, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California vacated the supply chain risk designation made under 10 U.S.C. 3252 (Anthropic PBC v. U.S. Department of War, No. 3:26-cv-01996). On September 25, 2026, the D.C. Circuit denied Anthropic's petitions for review of the separate exclusion of Claude under 41 U.S.C. 4713 (No. 26-1049), so that exclusion still stands. DoW contractors should check with their contracting officer before using any version of Claude on DoW work. Includes Claude Code in the desktop app. No web or mobile access.

Not legal advice. A CUI answer here describes what public authorization records say, not whether your specific contract, data or configuration is compliant. Confirm with your contracting officer, assessor or counsel.
